Bachelor of Science in Actuarial Science

The Insurance and Pensions Industry in Zambia is one of the industries whose landscape has evolved with the entrance and emergence of new firms. This is a branch of Science that uses Mathematics, Statistics, Economics and Financial knowledge to model and manage future uncertainty in Financial, Pension and Insurance industries. Using their broad knowledge of Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Finance, and Business, Actuaries help design insurance policies, pension plans, and other financial strategies in a manner which will help ensure that the plans are maintained on a sound financial basis. Fundamentally, pursuing this programme at the University of Lusaka will enable you to thoroughly understand how Actuarial Science stands at the intersection of risk and money. Acknowledging that Actuarial Science is a branch of science that uses mathematics, statistics, economics, and financial knowledge to model and manage future uncertainty, this course has been tailor-made to ensure that graduating students have the knowledge and skills to enable them to be disciplined risk managers and planners in corporate and industrial companies. The University of Lusaka decided to introduce this degree programme to aid in the grooming process of Actuarial Scientists; this is due to the shortage of qualified Actuaries in Zambia.
